Manifesto
We have loved and worked with coffee for more than a hundred years. In this century of activity we have won many challenges and learnt a great deal. We could simply enjoy the fruits of this long work, but our way of doing business is to always look to the future, never to the past. That is why we invest heavily in innovation and in developing new products, always trying to keep up with the times.
Direct Purchase
From the very start of our business we chose to guarantee our customers consistent quality by building and maintaining long-standing relationships with green coffee growers. For many years we have bought the best Arabica varieties from the same producers in Brazil and Central America, and the finest Robusta varieties in India. This lets us keep the taste and aroma of our historic blends unchanged, loved at the bar as much as at home.
Separate roasting
Blends are usually made with 3 or 4 different single-origin coffees. We have always chosen to roast each origin in a blend separately, to respect the characteristics of each type of bean and bring out all its aromas. Only after roasting are the single origins combined to create our fine blends.
We respect our roots, producing Espresso Coffee according to the formula of the Italian tradition, but we are not afraid to experiment, invest in continuous renewal and commitment to improvement. So we explore all the ways in which the world knows and tastes coffee, even those that are distant from our Italianity.
Italian Espresso
We are specialists in Italian Espresso. For this reason, all of Filicori Zecchini's espresso blends are IEI certified, that is, they meet the strict specifications of the Italian Espresso Institute, which determines their color, texture and aroma. However, we express our modernity in 100% Arabica blends, in the development of products based on single coffee origins and in the different degrees of roasting we propose for them.
Brewing
We are among the few Italian roasters to offer its customers coffees intended to be extracted by the most popular percolation methods: Automatic Drip Machine, Chemex and Hario V60. These are very popular methods in the world, in Italy often ignored, and with so many variations, each with its own peculiar characteristics. Our vocation for modernity and our cosmopolitan spirit drive us to want to explore and promote everything about the world of coffee.
We want to be a benchmark in the world of coffee, striving to give our best and lead by example in all market segments. We want to represent the best for HoReCa, the best for Coffee Lovers, the best for Modern Trade, and the best for OCS. How? By developing product lines based on the needs of each sector, specifically designed to create a memorable and enriching coffee experience.
HoReCa
The HoReCa world has always been our core business. We have been operating in this sector since the beginning of our entrepreneurial adventure and have achieved our greatest satisfaction. Our philosophy in approaching this sector is that our success coincides with that of our customers, which is precisely why we like to call them Partners. Our hundred years of experience as coffee roasters is a concrete guarantee: we know the needs of our Partners. That is why we have come up with a series of specific proposals to meet the needs of each type of establishment. We then also take care of the training of the café staff, because we are aware that a roasting company that cares about the fortunes of its Partners, in order to help them grow must share its knowledge about coffee with them. We are very proud of the success of our Espresso Workshop: in fact, each year more than 1,200 HoReCa professionals benefit from the teachings of our Coffee Trainers.
Coffee enthusiasts
We believe the world of coffee has a lot in common with the world of wine. As in creating a great wine, in creating a great coffee the raw material cannot be chosen at random or replaced with another, perhaps cheaper at a given moment. As with wine, for coffee too the terroir is of fundamental importance. We rely on a few trusted growers we have worked with for many years, so we know where our raw material grows and the care that goes into growing it. We are sure that in Italy, too, as is so common abroad, there are coffee lovers who share our love for this extraordinary drink. So for them we have developed a Gourmet Coffee line for home consumption, into which we have poured our best professional blends, along with the chance to taste single origins on their own, each with its own roast level.
Retail
For this distribution channel we chose a new approach. We decided to focus on three blends – Classico, 100% Arabica and certified organic and Fairtrade 100% Arabica – which, to meet every consumer need, we offer for all the most popular brewing systems: beans, ground, paper pods and compatible capsules. We then decided to build brand recognition by choosing a single white colour for our product packaging, which makes it easy to spot on the shelf. Finally, our new bags were developed to keep coffee at its best without using aluminium: a single material, to be put in the plastic collection.
Office
We have come up with the Attimo di Pausa line of coffee beans (Classic, Organic, and Arabica) and a line of pods and capsules-compatible with the leading coffee machines on the market-that guarantee a cup of coffee almost as good as at the bar. We abide by the rules of the industry while keeping an eye on value for money.
We celebrate coffee. We work every day to strengthen the culture of good coffee in Italy and around the world, trying to change the way it is perceived and experienced. We want to transform a daily ritual rooted in cultures around the world into a moment of pure pleasure, into a gastronomic experience.
Training
We are one of the first Italian roasters to have bet and invested in training our customers. In 2001 we started the Espresso Laboratory, where we offer educational solutions that combine passion and expertise and help customers grow.
Certifications
For more than 100 years, every day we have been committed to doing business in the best possible way. To attest to the levels we have achieved, we rely on the continuous monitoring of third parties who certify the way we work, the quality of our products, and the seriousness of our process controls.
Sustainability
For us, working with the next generations in mind means choosing concrete solutions one at a time: single-material packaging wherever technically possible, pods in compostable paper certified to standard UNI EN 13432, and aluminium capsules whose body is made of more than 80% recycled aluminium. All the details are on the Sustainability page.
