" My grandfather, Aldo Filicori, and Luigi Zecchini started a Bottega in the historic center of Bologna selling coffee in 1919. They infused all their love for the best quality things; they searched for the best raw materials and studied the secret for the perfect roasting, starting with the raw, green bean. Like that began the production of an extraordinary and unique coffee. Today, with the same enthusiasm, we grandchildren pursue the finest teas and refined chocolates, crafted in the Italian tradition, to match the quality of our coffee. This is how we find new ways to satisfy our passion for quality. The idea of our stores come from the desire to revive the experience of these unique scents, flavors, and tastes of an ancient Italian Bottega in a new frame of refined elegance."

Aldo Filicori and Luigi Zecchini open their first bottega on Via Orefici, in Bologna, while the beans are roasted on Via Oberdan, in the heart of the city, wafting the magical toasted fragrance of the first Filicori Zecchini coffee.

1933

Thanks to a historic deal, Filicori Zecchini becomes the Official Provider to the Royal House of Savoy, but the war is coming and brings coffee production to a sudden stop.

1964

Giovanni Filicori took the reins of the Company laying the foundation for our success today. He turned the small artisan shop into a prosperous industry, based on work ethic. Under his leadership, it was decided to make important investments in new technologies; in an age without computers and the Internet they were established new international business relationships with green coffee suppliers worldwide, Brazil, Colombia, India, Costarica and many others, and some of them still persist today.
These long-lasting commercial relationships, established by Giovanni Filicori, are one of the “secrets” that allow us to assure our customers the best constant quality standards over time. Giovanni Filicori, today in his best 82 years, is still our principal point of reference who taught and still teaching us how to run our business at its best, the respect for work ethic values, the research of the best possible quality for our products without compromises and last but not least the best ways for innovating our Company and make it even better.
He has taught us that each generation must not run the business for its own enrichment, but has to work to secure the future to the one that will follow: this is our authentic and long-lasting company secret.

Filicori Zecchini expands. It is no longer a small artisanal company: it is ready to face the global market with the first international exports.

1983

We move our company's location a few miles outside Bologna, to Osteria Grande. This is the beginning of a new era full of great accomplishments.

1989

Costanza Filicori and Luigi Zecchini Junior join the company. The great artisanal history of Filicori Zecchini continues thanks to the precious contributions of the founders' sons and grandchilren.

1995

We continue to be committed to doing what we do best: selecting and toasting the best coffee beans in the world. In 1995 we toasted more than 550,000 pounds of green coffee beans.

2001

We open our “Laboratorio Dell'Espresso”, a professional training experience for all of our suppliers and clients. In our classrooms, the best professional barmen teach the techniques of creative coffee-making and share their knowledge of the latest trends.

2004

We obtain the prestigious certification by the Istituto Nazionale Espresso Italiano (Italian Espresso National Institute), a great accomplishment and a big responsibility towards our customers. Being selected by the INEI means guaranteeing an accurate control over all the production stages and following the strict guidelines of the Certified Italian Espresso defined by the Institute.

Luca Filicori, Aldo Filicori's grandson, creates the first franchise. The idea is simple: combining the unique style of the Italian design with the best creative coffee-making, offering a service of the highest quality and, of course, the inimitable taste of the Filicori Zecchini products. It's the start of 17 important worldwide partnerships, from New York to Constanța, Romania.

We reach the milestone of 2 million pounds of toasted coffee, an extraordinary achievement that very few companies can claim.

2015

Filicori Zecchini's new challenge is gathering the excellence of Italian design and the artisan know-how of the company to bring to life a new in-store and out-store experience, transforming the company's traditional values into a true brand philosophy, overcoming the boundaries of the physical shop and opening to new channels and partnerships. Our range of products expands, including traditional pastries, fine chocolates, high-quality pralines, carefully selected teas, household espresso machines.
